The film documentation not only focuses on the origin and formation of the Prinzhorn Collection but also describes the lives of the artists themselves, as well as giving the floor to art historians and psychiatrists, so that the art of those mentally ill "maniacs" can be considered without prejudice. Similarly, as expressed by artists such as the expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner who also received treatment at a psychiatric clinic during the First World War: "I have received a lot of stimulation from drawings and paintings of psychiatric patients."
22nd April, 6 p.m.: A unique opportunity to attend a guided lecture at the exhibition with its curators Ivana Brádková and Terezie Zemánková!
„The differentiation of our pictures from those of the fine arts is possible today only because of obsolete dogmatism. Otherwise there are no demarcation lines. Some of our works are so clearly artistic that many an average “healthy” work is left far behind.”
“All expressive gestures as such are subordinate to one purpose: to actualize the psyche and thereby to build a bridge from the self to others.”
Hans Prinzhorn
