Robert Gabris

Robert Gabris

Skrze léta experimentování si Gabris osvojil médium kresby a našel svůj jedinečný a rozpoznatelný rukopis. Použití barevných pastelek na malých formátech papíru kontrastuje s často explicitními tělesnými výjevy. Estetika dětských kreseb v tomto spojení pak působí absurdně a odlehčeně.

Robert Gabris was born in the Banská Bystrica region of Czechoslovakia and later moved to Vienna, where he now lives and works. His work is strongly autobiographical. It deals with issues of physicality, identity, and social exclusion, especially the exclusion of the Roma minority or the specifics of sexual and gender difference. Through years of experimentation, Gabris has developed the medium of drawing and found his unique and recognizable style. The use of colored pencils on small-format paper contrasts with the often explicit physical scenes. The aesthetics of the children's drawings in this combination then appear absurd and light-hearted. However, drawing is not the only medium Gabris uses - he also works with photography, video and performance.
