Daniel Pešta expresses himself through painting, in which he freely moves from realistic recording through symbolist abbreviation to expressive, gestural expression, as well as through photography, collages, assemblages, spatial objects, installations and video. The theme that has dominated his work in recent years can be summed up under the term “determination” (which, incidentally, was also the name of his solo exhibition at DOX in 2018). His work explores the racial, social, gender, and genetic predetermination of the individual and the impossibility of avoiding one’s destiny. In this context, he deals with collective guilt, the stigmatization of minorities, the anonymity of the crowd and its political manipulation. His work is politically engaged.
